Walter "Bruce" Grear, 72, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. Born on July 10, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bruce lived a life marked by dedication to his family, and his career.
Bruce began his professional journey as a Stationary Engineer at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, working alongside his father. Through hard work and determination, he advanced to become Director of Facilities at several esteemed institutions, including Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children and Saint Charles Seminary. He concluded his outstanding career at Wellington Regional Medical Center. His commitment to excellence and strong leadership left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Bruce was a devoted husband to Barbara Grear and a loving father to Christopher Grear (Maryann) and Candace Tabako (nee Grear) (Christopher). And he adored his baby girl Gizmo. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Rebecca, John, and Abigail and took great joy in being a great-grandfather to Angel and Adrik. Bruce is also survived by his father Walter Grear; his brothers Craig (Marlene) and Kenneth (Deneen) Grear; nieces and nephews Lisa Adams (Dan), Kim Langdon; Micheal Grear; Aubrey, Alexia, and Maxwell Grear. He was predeceased by his mother Carol Grear (née Bricka), sister Joyce Langdon (née Grear), and nephew Kevin Grear.
Outside of his professional life, Bruce found happiness in simple pleasures. He loved golfing and riding his motorcycle -- Two activities that brought him a great deal of joy and peace. He was also a lifelong fan of Philadelphia sports teams.
Known for his quiet fortitude and calm resolve, Bruce met life's challenges with grace. Though a man of few words, he was deeply admired as a loyal friend who could always be counted on.
Bruce’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May those who loved him find comfort in remembering the strength of his character and the warmth of his love.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
