Walt Hasley Rambaransingh

 1975 - 2023

Beloved Son, Brother, and Friend.

One terrific Thursday (September 25th, 1975 to be precise) in beautiful San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobao, Ruth and Harry Rambaransingh excitedly welcomed their first born son, Walt. There’s nothing that compares to becoming a parent and one can only imagine the thoughts that raced through their minds as to what blessings were wrapped up in their small bundle of joy. Without a doubt he tugged at their heartstrings so much so in fact that they wasted little time in completing their family unit with baby brother Brent arriving just one year later.

Walt attended San Fernando boys RC primary school followed by Naparima College before the family moved to Florida when he was 14 years old. Harry always wanted the best for his boys and encouraged Walt academically which led to his acceptance into the International Baccalaureate program which is widely regarded as the most challenging and respected high school curriculum worldwide. Several of Walt's lifelong friends graduated Atlantic Community High School with him to much fanfare, as members of the inaugural four-year IB graduating class. During this time he earned the nickname “white-socks” for his propensity to seemingly always be wearing them. His academic excellence continued at the University of Florida starting in 1994 and later transferring to Lynn University where he completed his Undergraduate 2001 and then MBA in International Management in 2002 to 2004. During this time Walt became a diehard Florida Gators fan and an avid collector of UF memorabilia.  The trend of making lifelong friendships continued along with his remarkable ability to establish and maintain strong connections regardless of distance and time.

While still in college, Walt started his career at Ocwen Financial in 2000 where he held several positions starting as a Timeline Coordinator, Operations Processor, Senior Analyst and then finally a Client Relations Manager overseeing a team of senior analysts responsible for the maintenance projects of 3rd party clients in property valuation deals until 2007.

Walt was naturally athletic in almost any sport he played including basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc. That said he particularly loved being a soccer goalkeeper. Later in life, he took up cricket and became an invaluable member of the local tight-knit South Florida cricket fraternity. Wonderful memories on the field including being nicknamed the “Juggling Ninja” for a catch he took off West Indian start batsman Shiv Chanderpaul in a tour match and his unique bowling style that proved to be unusually effective against some of the premier batters in the league. His most significant contributions in cricket however came in its administration off the field where he served as Vice President for Palm Beach Titans Cricket Club.  Walt was gifted from birth it seems with the ability to be one of those blessed people who are often referred to as the glue that holds everything together. He had an innate ability to endear himself to his teammates, he loved organizing tours and was even later named the “The Little Titan” by cricket mecca Sarasota Int’l Cricket Club…a play on words referencing his larger than life status in the sport.

As many of his close friends can attest, he wanted everybody to get along and be happy. He used to reference his namesake Walt Disney, another man that wanted to make people happy.  Friends and family meant the world to Walt. Although Walt never married, he certainly was always regarded by his friends as the most marriage ready amongst them…after all he was an excellent cook, the clean freak in the group, and importantly the most sentimental and considerate of the bunch. To the end, everyone fully expected some lucky young lady to discover this gem of a man.  He also loved to travel and spoke often of his travels to his  favorite Bermuda.

Walt’s parties were famously spicy featuring different Trinidadian dishes, curries and jerk chicken, He was generous in distributing fruits and pepper sauces and his chows made from mango, june plum and pineapple, recipes taught to him by his parents are the stuff of legend in local cricket circles.  To say Walt loved him some “peppa” sauce would be the understatement of the century, second only to how much he loved his family and friends!!

Walt was that guy that was always the first to arrive and the last to leave…that is until his passing where he became the first to leave of his generation. He was predeceased by his father Harry and is survived by his mother Ruth, brother Brent, and hundreds of extended family and friends.
