Robert D. Eaton Jr.,79 of Lake Worth, FL formerly of Lindenhurst, NY passed peacefully on 7/11/2026 surrounded by loved ones.
Bob’s 79 trips around the sun saw him overcome leg paralyzing polio at age four to go on to serve in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam in the 1st Cav Infantry Division Recon 1st-5th. He was an athlete all his life, from running in the NYC marathon in 1980 to completing Ironman Lake Placid, NY in 2003. He excelled in playing softball, skiing, golfing, cycling, running, and competing in triathlons.
He spent his career in various positions at the US Postal Service in the Mid Island mail processing center on Long Island, NY.
He is survived by his adoring wife Jeanette Mitchell, and his loving children, Robert. D. Eaton III of Queensbury, NY, Dawn Eaton (John Carlisi) of Smithtown, NY, William Eaton of Charlotte, NC, Ryann Eaton (Bobby Nascimento) of Gibsonton, FL and Shaye Eaton of Sun City Center, FL, and eight cherished grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bob is a lifetime member of VFW Post 4256 in Madeira Beach, FL where he vacationed and enjoyed the warmth and companionship of fellow veterans. Post 4256 has been rebuilding since it was destroyed in October 2024 by back-to-back Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida. Bob will be laid to rest with Military Honors at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida. Please assemble in Lane #3 by 10:45 AM if attending services at the cemetery on Tuesday.
