Oweida Kinsey Bergstrom-Swart

Oweida was born on May 21, 1928, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She passed peacefully on March 14th, 2026, at the age of 97, in Pompano Beach, FL. Her parents were William C. Kinsey and Annie V. Tomlinson. Her family included two brothers, Harold L. and Arthur F. Kinsey, and two sisters, Barbara E. and Mary Ann Kinsey.

Oweida was married to Rolland “Swede” Bergstrom on June 17, 1946, in West Palm Beach, Florida and had two sons. Oweida and Rolland were passionate about dancing, roller skating, bowling, and playing music. She played accordion and he played harmonica in a band together that performed at different community events, until Swede’s premature passing on June 7, 1994.

Oweida remarried Vernon Swart on August 13, 1994. Both shared an avid interest in playing music, with each playing multiple instruments. Oweida played accordion and guitar while Vernon played saxophone and violin. They devoted their lives to playing dance music for the enjoyment of the public. Later in life, Oweida would perform several tap dance routines, and both performed around Palm Beach County. Vernon passed on April 10, 2007.

During her lifetime, Oweida graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1946 and was a stay-at-home housewife and mother. She worked part-time at home as a seamstress while her sons were growing up. Later, she worked for 20+ years at Dorsey Insurance in West Palm Beach. Until recently, she lived at the same West Palm Beach address for 72 years.

Oweida is survived by her two sons, Kenneth L. Bergstrom (Lynda Chadwick) and Larry J. Bergstrom (Julie Nuessle), as well as five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and neighbors.

A private grave-side ceremony for family and friends will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 3041 Kirk Rd, Lake Worth, Florida.
