Nancy Mickles Gaines

Nancy Mickles Gaines, age 92, passed away on January 14, 2024. Nancy was born in Miami, Florida on December 30, 1931 and resided in Miami Lakes for the majority of her life. She attended Miami Senior High School then started working for National Airlines delivering mail internally at 17 years old and moved up to be the first woman in management, monitoring jet engines by hand. Nancy always said she was so lucky when she married Jim, because she inherited three wonderful children and then they had one of their own.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Doris and Cosper Mickles; brother, Robert Mickles and her husband, James Gaines. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Forsyth and Nancy (Randy) Maxwell; sons, Andrew (Debbie) Gaines and Patrick (Lesley) Gaines; granddaughters, Heather (Mark) Robinson, Jessica (Chase) Holland, Christina Gaines, Danielle (Brandon) Gaines and Kristy (Jay) Williamson; great grandchildren, Ty Robinson, Colton Robinson, Savanna Corcoran, Harper Treadwell, Adilyn Treadwell, Torin Treadwell, Madison Forsyth, Ellington Holland, Lila Holland, Crew Holland, Rigdon Holland, Hawk Holland and Hadley Williamson. Nancy will also be lovingly remembered by her sister, Iris (Jim) Thirtle as well as other relatives and many friends who will miss her dearly.

Nancy will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Jim at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida 33449. Please assemble in Lane #1 by 10:15 AM if attending services at the cemetery on Tuesday.
