Maria Delia Bahamón Navarro, 58, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026, with a pink rosary in her hand and her son by her side.
Born in Prado, Tolima, Colombia, the daughter of Rafaela and Primitivo, Delia was the youngest of twelve siblings. She loved a full house and made every person feel seen.
Delia was a force of nature. She taught her family the power of courage and resilience, and her strength never took away her tenderness. She was known for her joyful optimism, her contagious laugh, and deep empathy toward others.
She enjoyed being part of her community and gave her time as a volunteer at church events in Broward and Palm Beach. Her faith in Christ and her love for humanity guided everything she did.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved music, dancing, and laughter. A few days before she left us, she asked for “Delia la Cumbiambera” to be played, a song that captures the joyful atmosphere of a traditional Colombian cumbia. As soon as the music started, she lit up, smiled, and moved to the beat. It was the last song she had the joy of hearing.
She is survived by her son Javier and his father, José, along with her siblings Omaira, Edith, Cecilia, Marina, Sol, Lilia, José, Salvador, and Hernando.
The family is deeply grateful to the doctors and nurses of Baptist Health who cared for her with affection over the last few years, especially Dr. Naomi Dempsey and Dr. Ana Botero, whose care and kindness made them part of the family.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, time & date to be announced.. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations, which they will give on her behalf to special causes Delia cared about and help people in need.
She lived by her own saying: “sin prisa, pero sin pausa” which translates to “Don’t rush, but don’t stop moving forward”, a testament to her courageous need to continue to fight no matter the circumstances.
