In Loving Memory of Trudy Winsberg
Trudy Winsberg, a long-time resident of Boynton Beach, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in West Seneca, New York, Trudy was the youngest of four children. From an early age, she showed the intelligence, independence, and determination that would shape her life. She attended Cornell University, where she studied Home Economics and Nutrition—fields that reflected her practical mindset and lifelong commitment to caring for others. It was there that she met her future husband, Ted Winsberg. They married in 1951 and remained partners for 74 years.
In 1953, Trudy and Ted moved to Florida and eventually settled on what became Green Cay Farms. Trudy managed the farm’s finances—doing payroll and bookkeeping by hand in the early days, and later adapting to new technologies with her usual persistence. Her steady, detail-oriented work was a critical part of the farm's success.
Trudy was also an avid tennis player and a longtime member of the Delray Tennis Club, where she played weekly for over four decades. She captained her team with a focus on fairness, fun, and reliability, and after retiring from the court, she stayed connected through regular gatherings with her tennis friends.
In the 1970s, Trudy co-founded and co-ran a women’s health clinic in Pompano Beach. At a time when this kind of work took courage and conviction, she played an important role in supporting reproductive healthcare and women's rights. She and Ted were not only financial supporters of the clinic—they were personally involved as well.
Her commitment to public service continued through her being a founding member of the South Palm Beach County Chapter of the League of Women Voters, where she remained an active member for over 60 years. Trudy and Ted were also founding members of the Florida Trails Association, participating in group hiking and trail maintenance. She championed causes she believed in—women’s rights, farmworker justice, and environmental conservation—with quiet consistency and real impact.
One of the lasting contributions Trudy and Ted made was helping transform their farm into Green Cay Wetlands, in partnership with Palm Beach Water Utilities and Department of Parks & Recreation. The land that once grew crops now serves as a public wildlife sanctuary and water treatment site. Trudy took special pride in the beauty of that space and loved spending time at her favorite spot, “The Overlook.”
Trudy is survived by her husband Ted; her children and their spouses—Kathryn and King of Bethesda, MD; Sylvia and Michael of Boynton Beach, FL and their son Max and his family; David and Karin of Palo Alto, CA and their sons Felipe and Andreas and their families; and Mark and Diane of Rochester, NY and their daughters Sarah and Rachel and their families.
Trudy will be remembered for her sharp mind, strong will, and dedication to both family and community. She lived with purpose and generosity, and she made a lasting difference in the lives of those around her.
