George Amato

January 25, 1949 — March 13, 2022

GEORGE SARKIS AMATO (January 25, 1949 - March 13, 2022) George was the first born of 5 children to parents Alice and George Amato. He was a wonderful family man, husband and successful businessman. He grew up in the Bronx, NY and was an integral member of many rock bands in the 60’s and had famous persons in his bands. One of his early bands, Pecks Bad Boys released the LP called Crazy World which is still available on I-tunes. George was drafted to Vietnam in 1968 and served as an elite Sniper on the front lines of the Vietnam war. After his tour of duty, George returned home to a band that waited two years for his return. By divine grace he met his amazing wife of 51 years Pirjo Amato at a party with friends. He changed course and committed to living a very different life after meeting Pirjo. This led to a supers job in the Bronx, fixing compactors and soon after construction. He got his general contractors license and started several construction companies. George and Pirjo had 3 children. George is survived by his lovely wife Pirjo and his children Pia Amato, Rebecca Mahoney (Brian) and Daniel Amato, grandchildren Benjamin Mahoney, McKenzie Mahoney, Reagan Mahoney, Ryan Amato, Brinlee Amato, Briele Amato, adopted granddaughters Karen, Mari and Jessica Marcos and their mother Maria. Eventually, George and Pirjo moved to Florida with their children and continued with the construction business. George then changed course with business and became an exporter of cars and hunting rifles and more to Finland with his wife. Finally, George and Pirjo settled and refocused their ambitions on an orchid business called PRA Orchids which they grew and had success with together here in the Palm Beaches, New York and The Hamptons. Their life style was very comfortable living half the year in a Florida home and the other half in their Maine home. Both homes that George designed and built himself. George built a greenhouse and maintained oversight of the business and supported his wife’s dreams. They eventually sold all of their homes and businesses and successfully retired in a beautiful home in Arden for their retirement. Unfortunately, George had a stroke 3 years ago in May which eventually led to his untimely death. George was a quiet man that was respected by all who met him. He had the unique ability to draw everyone close with few words. He had a great and subtle sense of humor and was a very generous man. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if you asked, and on one occasion this actually happened when his son Daniel told him that he liked a shirt he was wearing. George was very committed to Jesus and the church, pastoring a church with Pirjo in Maine, playing music in the band with the bass and guitar, ran a prison ministry and was truly a mighty man of God. The love he and his wife had for each other was truly an example for all to witness. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. We love you George and will see you again in heaven. (John 14:1) Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
