Dorothy Liberman

Dorothy Liberman, 98, a long-time Palm Beach resident and former supervisor of student teachers and language department chairperson in New Jersey, died on July 28 at MorseLife Tradition, a West Palm Beach, FL assisted living facility.

A 1949 graduate of New Jersey College for Women, now the Douglass College division of Rutgers University, Mrs. Liberman was fluent in French and Spanish. She began her career teaching both subjects at Asbury Park High School in New Jersey. She was appointed head of the language department at Ocean Township High School in New Jersey when it first opened in 1965 and went on to supervise student teachers at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ.

She and her husband Simon “Si” Liberman, a retired Sunday editor of the Asbury Park Press, were long-time residents of Interlaken, NJ, before moving to Florida in 2011.

Mrs. Liberman served as vice president of the National Council of Jewish Women while in Asbury Park.

Born in New York, Mrs. Liberman was the daughter of the late Jacob “Jack” and Ruth Gold. As a teen-ager, she was a talented tap dancer and performed in shows, including one at the famed Frank Dailey’s Meadowbrook in Cedar Grove, NJ.

Mrs. Liberman is survived by her husband of 77 years, Simon Liberman; son, Dana Scott Liberman and his wife, Jill; daughter, Gail Liberman Lavine and her husband, Alan; grandchildren, Taryn Liberman and Dr. Brooke Liberman Kaphusman and her husband, Andrew.

Private cremation services are under the care of Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, West Palm Beach, FL.
