Dimitri Jemeson

June 29, 1947 — June 5, 2025

Dimitri "Jim" Jemeson, 77, born on June 29, 1947, in Erlangen, Germany, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Taylors, SC.

Jim started his career in aviation at UCLA as a First Lieutenant of the U.S. Air Force ROTC. Afterwards, he was sent to pilot training and served during the war in Vietnam. He flew the F-4 Phantom, and was a founding member of the 93rd Fighter Squadron "Makos" at Homestead Air Force Base. His last assignment was at the Pentagon.

In 1978, Jim was hired by Eastern Airlines, and worked as a pilot until their strike in 1991. Soon after, he became a flight instructor for United Airlines, rose to become a First Officer, and retired flying the 747-400 at the then-mandatory retirement age of 60.

Jim was an active member of the Air Force Association (AFA), Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), and Retired United Pilots Association (RUPA). Much like his illustrious career in aviation, his personal interests were vast. He was a true engineer and Renaissance man with an ability to work on and fix anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dimitry and Anastasia Wlasiuk Jemeson.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Denise Sovacool Jemeson, their children Gregory and Hilary Jemeson; as well as his sister-in-law Rhonda Johnson (Kenneth) and 5 nieces and nephews.

Jim will be lad to rest with Military Honors on Thursday, June 12, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Wellington, Florida 33449. Please assemble in Lane #3 by 10:45 AM if attending services at the cemetery on Thursday
