Delores E. Broening

October 20, 1937 — April 14, 2023

Boynton Beach, Florida

Delores E. (Eileen) Broening (nee Sheetz) passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at her Boynton Beach, Florida home. She is survived by her husband, Gerald F. Broening, retired Air Force Officer and former mayor of Boynton Beach, seven children, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Born in Cumberland, Maryland in 1937, she and her parents, John E. and Louise E. Sheetz moved to Baltimore, Maryland during World War II. She married her husband in 1957 and bore her first child, Elizabeth, a year later.

She and her family moved to Carroll County, Maryland, shortly thereafter, where her husband taught at Francis Scott Key High School. She then bore six more children, John, Michael, Peter, Christopher, Ellen and Ann.

Although she was an only child, Delores was an ideal mother and wife, supporting her family by herself during her husband's frequent long-term assignment. In addition to her devotion to her family, Delores became an ardent supporter of Head Start, the pre-school education program for under-privileged children and acquired teacher certification.

A staunch conservative. Delores supported public issues involving public safety, education and family values. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Delores asked that no services or ceremonies be observed for her. A longt-time lymphacytic leukemia patient, she asked that in lieu of flowers or other remembrance, a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphatic Society be substituted.
