Claire DeAngelis Abrams, of Greenacres, FL, passed away aged 83 on Tuesday, July 18th. She always would say “if I knew I was going to live this long I would’ve taken better care of myself!” The daughter of Italian immigrants, Claire is survived by her son, Vincent D. Abrams, her grandson, Jacob E. Abrams, her sister-in-law, Betty Georgis, and a stepson, Stuart M. Swinger. Claire was predeceased by her husband of 53 years and the love of her life, Walter F. Abrams, Jr., as well as her parents Vincenzo and Felicia (Tosti) DeAngelis, an infant sister, and her daughter-in-law, Donna Shaw Abrams.
Claire was born in Wilmington, DE in December 1939 and grew up in Hockessin, DE. Claire was a proud graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School in 1957, and after a long career in Human Resources for Hercules Incorporated/Himont, she and Walt “retired” to Greenacres, FL in 1985.
Unable to sit still, she continued to take jobs with W. R. Grace, Inc., Philips Electronics, and many other places, finishing her long career by working part time at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in West Palm Beach.
Claire famously had no filters; always true to herself, she always said what was on her mind. And though Claire’s mother was a great Italian cook, that never rubbed off on Claire. She would always remind Walt that her marriage vows said “love, honor and obey” but they did not say anything about cooking. She was an accomplished traveler, though her most memorable trip was spending 2 weeks touring Italy with her grandson and his schoolmates.
She was always the first to admit that she had a wonderful life; a great and loving husband, two wonderful sons, a grandson she loved more than life itself, and many close friends who loved her. She will be greatly missed.
