Joan Redmond (93) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and family historian passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Jupiter, Florida. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 24, 1932 to Craig and Velma Thompson, Joan moved with her family to Baltimore, Maryland as a child. Joan attended Catonsville High School where she was known for her athletics (field hockey, track, and basketball). She spent many years in Baltimore, creating wonderful memories and maintaining life-long friends, among them her dearest friend of 90 years, Patsy McMahon of Baltimore, Maryland.
Joan married Leonard Redmond in Baltimore, Maryland and later relocated to Lake Worth, Florida. Together they enjoyed many years of sunshine and golfing in Palm Beach County. She was a league bowler into her 80s and shared treasured friendships with her teammates. Remarkably, she once scored a perfect 300 game. Often her circle of friends would gather to enjoy a meal, a trip to the casino to play the coin slots, or for a dominoes challenge.
Most of all Mother treasured time with her immediate and extended family. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Redmond; and survived by her children, Sandra (Blizzard) and Cletus Pirtle of Stuart, Florida, Sally (Blizzard) and James Purkey of Laceyville, PA , Charles and Luann Blizzard of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Katherine (Blizzard) and Elmer Penton of Holly Springs, NC. Joan’s greatest joy was watching the generations unfold and flourish, she was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. As our family historian it was her passion during every conversation to inquire, and stay in touch, with the lives of the family and friends that she dearly loved.
Joan spent recent years at Addington Place of Jupiter, FL where she made new friends with residents, staff and management. Joan’s family is grateful for the blessing of the compassionate and exceptional care that comforted her throughout her time at Addington Place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory toTrustbridge Hospice or to the American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Ferbuary 7, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida. A Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Aidan M. Lacy will begin at 7:00 PM at the funeral home on Saturday. Joan will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Leonard at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida at a future date to be announced by the funeral home.
